3 Things You Don't Know About Coconuts

Like you really needed an excuse to drink coconut water--the delicious liquid of paradise.

But really, there is more than meets than the nut with this amazing and all natural supercharged drink.

For example, did you know coconuts are a superfood?

Or that they could save your life?

Welp, read on.

Here are 3 impressive things about coconuts and why you should drink them:

1. They Can Save Your Life

In Sanskrit (the language of ancient India), the coconut palm tree is known as kalpa vriksha, which means “the tree that supplies all that is needed to live”.

Strong words but it's not a metaphor. Coconuts (especially young coconuts) share similar properties with human plasma.

In fact, during World War II in the Pacific, coconut water was reported to be used as emergency plasma transfusions for wounded soldiers.

While not ideal to use intravenously (don’t go shooting up coconut IVs at home), it has been shown to be safe to do so in emergency situations when saline solution is not available.

2.  Boosts Metabolism

Hydration is key to keeping our metabolism going throughout the day.

The ingredients in coconut water are more effective at hydrating the human body than sports and energy drinks.

Sports and energy drinks often contain harmful preservatives and excessive sugars. Do you really think the colors of Gatorade are natural and good for you?

Gatorade and other energy/sports drinks are like socially acceptable adult Kool-Aid...but it’s still Kool-Aid and Kool-Aid doesn't grow on a tree.

Coconut water is a much healthier (and cheaper) choice that will keep you hydrated longer. It also contains a plethora of essential electrolytes to keep you going. They include: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and sodium.

By staying hydrated we more easily flush out toxins, absorb the nutrients we need and stay energized while keeping our metabolism going.

3. Improves Digestion

Coconut water is known to help facilitate and improve digestion.

This helps to improve the absorption of vitamins and minerals for optimal energy and illness prevention.

Our digestive system plays an important role in our overall well-being and regulating our health. A poor digestive system can lead to all sorts of problems that include: fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, poor immune system, depression, and more serious illness if not treated. Not to mention moodiness and irritability, which no one needs more of.

Be kind to your stomach and it will be kind to you. Well, most of the time at least.

Coconut water is also easy on your digestive system and is typically recommended as a good hydration drink for a variety of digestive problems.

But who really needs an excuse to drink a delicious, freshly-hacked-open coconut on the beach?

The best part is they are super cheap in tropical countries and they're great for travel. It’s an awesome and delicious way to keep you hydrated and adjusted to the tropical heat.

Come to paradise on our Starter Costa Rica Trip and get yo coconuts on the daily while relaxing under a palm tree.

Cheers to health and adventure!
