Day 1
Arrival in El Salvador
Afternoon
- Arrive at El Salvador Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL) in San Salvador by 2:00 p.m., ready to begin your adventure.
- Your Trip Leader will pick you up from the airport, and we’ll head to the hotel for check-in. (~1-hour drive)
- Once you get settled in the hotel, we’ll go for a city tour of the downtown area. During the tour, you will see colonial-era buildings, grand plazas, and significant landmarks. You'll also learn about the city's founding in the 1500s and the establishment of the Republic of El Salvador. The tour will include stops at notable sites such as the National Palace, the National Library, and San Salvador Cathedral.
Evening
- Your first dinner and drinks in El Salvador are at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional flavors.
- Time to relax in your room after your long travel day.
Day 2
Cerro Verde National Park and Flower Route
Morning
- After a delightful breakfast, you’ll explore Cerro Verde National Park (~1.5-hour drive), which provides a unique experience for nature lovers.
- Feel free to walk through the beautiful orchid garden and enjoy spectacular viewpoints from which to admire the majestic Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes (also known as Ilamatepeq), along with Lake Coatepeque.
Afternoon
- Enjoy lunch at Cerro Verde.
- Continue with a scenic 1.5-hour drive along the Flower Route, arriving at Café Albania in Apaneca. Here, you’ll discover the charming towns along the route, nestled within mountain coffee plantations.
- At the café, you’ll have time to take part in optional activities for an extra cost: explore the Albania Labyrinth, go on a bike cable adventure, or ride the country's longest toboggan.
Evening
- You’ll be staying for the next two nights at a charming, family-run hotel nestled in the picturesque mountains of western El Salvador.
- As you arrive, take in the breathtaking views that surround you. In the evening, indulge in a delicious dinner prepared with local ingredients, savoring traditional flavors of the region's rich culinary heritage.
- After your meal, unwind in the hotel’s tranquil gardens, where the soothing sounds of nature create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.
Day 3
Flower Route (Ruta de las Flores)
Morning
- After a delicious breakfast, you’ll visit a family-run coffee farm where you’ll learn all about coffee, from the plantations where it is grown to the various preparation methods that transform it into the drink we love.
- You’ll also find out more about sustainable coffee production and discover how it supports small and medium-sized producers.
Afternoon
- You'll enjoy the country lunch prepared by the mother at the coffee farm.
- After lunch, we’ll embark on a 30-minute drive to Nahuizalco, the next town in the Flower Route.
- Your tour will include a visit to Nahuizalco, known as the "land of wicker & tulle."
- After exploring the town, you’ll see various products made by Nahuizalcan artisans using wicker and tulle, such as furniture, ornaments, hats, and mats.
Evening
- After returning to Apaneca, you'll have the rest of the afternoon free to explore at your own pace.
- Spend another night in the cozy casa in Cabañas de Apaneca.
Day 4
El Zonte Beach Day
Morning
- After a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to La Libertad beach, famous for its stunning coastline and vibrant surfing culture.
- Once there, you'll dive into surfing lessons, led by professional instructors who cater to all experience levels. They’ll teach you speed.
- As you catch your first waves, you’ll feel the thrill of surfing and connect with the beauty of the ocean. Stay safe and have having fun.
Afternoon
- Enjoy a delicious lunch at the beach club, set against the stunning backdrop of El Salvador's Pacific coast. Here, you can bask in the warm sunshine as you hone your surfing skills on the gentle waves.
- Unwind on the soft sands or indulge in the comfort of the private beach club, where you can relax by the pool or take a refreshing plunge into the ocean waters. Each moment here combines relaxation and adventure amid breathtaking natural beauty.
Evening
- Our closing dinner will be in San Salvador, where you can take a final glimpse of the city.
- You can visit Zona Rosa and La Gran Vía, nightlife hubs featuring trendy bars, clubs, lounges, and live music. You'll find everything from electronic dance clubs to salsa spots and upscale cocktail bars.
Day 5
Departure from El Salvador
Morning
- The group will have one final break fast together.
- Depart for El Salvador Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL) in San Salvador on included transportation (~1-hour drive).
- Before heading to the airport, make a brief stop at La Puerta del Diablo, also known as the Devil’s Door. This natural rock formation, nestled between two cliffs on Cerro El Chulo, offers stunning panoramic views of San Salvador, the Pacific Ocean, Lake Ilopango, and the San Vicente Volcano. The site is also steeped in local legends that add a touch of mystery to its dramatic landscape.
- Arrival at the airport is at 2:00 p.m. Say 'hasta luego' (never goodbye!) to your new friends and, keep in touch with our travel community.
- Many of our groups plan reunion sin cities across the United States, book new trips together, or even become so close friends that they attend each other’s weddings!
