Trip Overview

Day 1

Welcome to Egypt

Salaam Alaikum! Arrive at Cairo International Airport (CAI) and take included transportation to your hotel in Cairo, Egypt’s sprawling capital set on the Nile River.

Explore Cairo’s culture, art, and beauty as you walk the alleyways of Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. Discover magnificent mosques, historic houses, and local artisan stores as you stroll El Moez Street, the world’s largest open-air museum for Islamic monuments.

Get to know your new friends while enjoying Egypt’s national dish, koshary, and begin to settle into your new surroundings.

Day 2

Giza Pyramids

This morning, you will explore some of the world’s most iconic sights—the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx! Spend time walking around these majestic structures as you take in the panoramic views across the dunes.

Wander the treasure-filled halls of the Egyptian Museum on a guided tour and browse one of the oldest collections in the world.

In the evening, you’ll have free time to explore Cairo’s night markets more, or opt for a Nile River cruise.

Day 3

Experience Nubian Culture

Start your day with an early morning flight to Aswan, Egypt’s enchanting oasis of history and culture.

Kayak the Nile’s flat waters, observe the diversity of birds that have made homes on nearby islands and paddle along the walls of the Philae Temple.

Experience a unique cultural visit to a Nubian village. Sit with a local family to share authentic dishes and hear about their everyday lives.

Day 4

Abu Simbel Temples

Journey by bus to Nubia’s southern border to experience one of Egypt’s most awe-inspiring monuments, the Great Temple of Abu Simbel. Admire the precision of this rock-cut temple built by King Ramesses II.

Walk to the Small Temple, dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Ramesses II’s Great Royal Wife, Queen Nefertari.

Return to Aswan for some free time to explore the city. Take the opportunity to see the Philae Temple Light Show or browse the night market for something to bring home.

Day 5

Sailing Along the Nile

Today, sail along the Nile River in our private Egyptian felucca-–a traditional wooden boat with a canvas sail.

Spend the day relaxing on the sundeck, watching rural Egyptian life play out on the banks of the Nile. Stop and explore islands that dot the landscape and feast on hearty vegetarian meals prepared on the boat.

Take in the sunset over the Nile. Tonight, you’ll sleep under a canopy of stars on the boat’s deck as people have done for thousands of years.

Day 6

Karnak Temple

Wake up to the sun on your face and enjoy breakfast on board the felucca. Say goodbye to the Nubian boat crew and make your way to the open-air Luxor Museum.

Visit the largest religious building ever constructed-–the Temple of Karnak. This city of temples took more than 2,000 years to build. Explore the Avenue of Sphinxes and the Great Temple of Amun, two of the most impressive sections of the complex.

Head into the town of Luxor for a free evening and a chance to see the Luxor Temple at night or enjoy a drink at one of the rooftop terraces overlooking the Nile.

Day 7

Valley of the Kings

After breakfast, cross to the west bank of the Nile and make your way to the Valley of Kings, the burial place of Egyptian royalty. Spend the morning visiting ancient temples and tombs.

Gaze up at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III measuring 60 feet (18 meters) in height!

Feel welcomed into a local family’s home for another unique cultural experience and share a home-cooked Egyptian lunch. Then, it’s off to the beach resort town of Hurghada.

Day 8

Hurghada

Wake up in your resort located on the shores of the Red Sea and enjoy breakfast on site. Today is a free day for you to choose your own adventure.

Opt to discover the nearby islands on a snorkeling trip, go scuba diving for those who are certified, or even take an underwater excursion in a submarine. Feel like relaxing after a long journey? Enjoy Hurghada’s beaches or walk along the rows of shops and restaurants at the marina.

Gather with your group for a final dinner in Egypt as you share what you’ve learned and reflect on your journey.

Day 9

Relax & Depart Egypt

Wake up early on your final morning in Egypt for one last swim in the Red Sea.

Say goodbye to your new friends and depart any time of the day. Your Trip Leader will tell you how to take local transportation or help you arrange a taxi to Hurghada International Airport.

"I have been on 2 Under30 trips - Costa Rica and Egypt - and have my third trip booked for this year to Thailand. I have been nothing but impressed with the responsiveness of the home office, the helpful online community, and of course the tours themselves. My guides on both trips have been fantastic and have been extremely knowledgeable about the places we visited. Days are jam-packed but you have flexibility to do what you need to do and see as much as you can, while also taking time to connect with locals and see off-the-beaten-path places. I recommend U30X to all my friends who want to solo travel and take the stress out of planning!" -Liv J.
