The thought of solo travel had NEVER entered my mind, but the more I researched the U30X and the trips offered, the more intrigued I became. I found a destination and itinerary that I was most interested in and took a leap of faith. I signed up for my first ever solo trip…Bali!

As soon as I landed, I met my trip leader, Angga. He instantly put me at ease by saying he was not just our trip leader but, more importantly, he was our friend. From that moment, I knew this was going to be an unforgettable experience. I spent the next six nights and seven days with nine “strangers” who became instant friends from day one.

The activities in Bali were the perfect mix of relaxation and endurance. One day we were getting massages on the beach and swimming in the Indian Ocean, and another day we were hiking an active volcano in the early morning hours to watch the sunrise. I have never been more physically challenged than I was during this hike, but my new friends encouraged me the entire way. When I made it to the top, I was overcome with a huge sense of accomplishment…and that view did not disappoint.

I am forever changed by my experiences in Bali. The locals have a need for very little, a want for even less, and they are some of the happiest people I have ever met. Learning about their culture and being around their infectious passion for all living creatures left a lasting impression on me. I began to reflect on how blessed and fortunate I am, not because of what I have, but because of what I learned about myself. This entire journey challenged me beyond my wildest expectations, but I am forever grateful for the reflection, confidence, and inspiration that I brought home with me. My experience in Bali was unforgettable and truly surreal. This was my trip of a lifetime. Suksma (thank you) for the memories.
