Arrive at Noi Bai International Airport and take the included transfer to your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. After check-in, meet your Trip Leader for a walk to Hoan Kiem Lake and your first Vietnamese meal with the group.
Be ready to go from Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) at 3:00 p.m.
Wrap up with a final morning in Hoi An, then take the included private transfer to Da Nang International Airport for your flight home.
The trip ends at 12:00 noon. Wait for airfare instructions after registration before booking flights.
Expect 3–4 active hours most days, with city walking tours, a 500+ stair climb to Hang Mua, and a bike ride through Hoi An’s countryside. An active lifestyle helps, but you don’t need to be an athlete.
You’ll get a few real breaks in Ninh Binh, Hue, Hoi An, and on your final morning, but most days still include sightseeing, cultural visits, or transit between cities.
Your final base is Hoi An, a lantern-lit trading town of yellow buildings, riverside lanes, and easy access to Tra Que Herbal Village and the surrounding countryside.

Gather with your newfound friends for your first tastes of the famous Vietnamese cuisine.
On your second day, you can start with a cup of world-famous Vietnamese coffee. Then your group will head over to the Temple of Literature, a historic site dedicated to Confucius, which served as Vietnam’s first national university.
Explore Hanoi on a guided walking tour. Experience the peaceful alleys on Hang Hanh, known as Coffee Street. Admire Saint Joseph's Cathedral, the oldest church in Hanoi. Observe the chaos of Hanoi's motorbike traffic as you make your way to the Old Quarter.
In the evening, you’ll have a guided Hanoi Street Food Experience tour, which is an excellent opportunity to sample a variety of Vietnamese specialties such as banh cuon and banh mi, sip on bia hoi (Vietnamese draught beer), and slurp up a bowl of pho. Finish it off with the tastiest ice cream in Hanoi!
Today, leave the city behind and make our way through the Vietnamese countryside to Ninh Binh! You'll visit the household of a local artisan who will teach you how to make traditional Vietnamese toy figurines known as To He.
In Ninh Binh, you’ll have lunch at the home of a local family. Enjoy a home-cooked meal in this tiny village surrounded by limestone cliffs. It’s a unique opportunity to learn more about Vietnamese culture while having a meal with your host family.
Van Long Nature Reserve is one of the most biodiverse wetlands in Vietnam. Experience this surreal landscape of rainforests and mountains on a traditional sampan boat rowed by local boatmen.
Venture up 500+ stairs to one of the most impressive viewpoints of Trang An. Upon reaching the top of Hang Mua, you will be impressed with a fantastic panoramic view of the river, rice fields, and mountains of Ninh Binh province.
Learn about Vietnamese Buddhism and discover the spiritual allure of Bich Dong Pagoda, a timeless cultural and historical landmark in Vietnam. The unique architecture of the pagodas is built into limestone karsts.
In the afternoon, you can discover more of Ninh Binh with a few hours of free time before boarding the overnight train to Hue, the ancient imperial capital of Vietnam.
You’ll have a few hours to explore more of Ninh Binh before boarding the overnight train.
Wake up on board the train arriving in Hue, a city with rich history, culture, and famous cuisine. After breakfast at a local restaurant, you’ll have an orientation walk with your Trip Leader to help you get a feel for this city.
Later that morning, you’ll visit a Garden House, known for its traditional architecture and natural landscape. It’s a perfect spot for savoring a cup of tea and a slice of cake while taking in a glimpse of Hue’s ancient imperial heritage.
For lunch, try Bun Bo Hue, a spicy and flavorful noodle soup originating from Hue. Then, you can take the rest of the day to explore Hue at your leisure. The Imperial City or shop for “lon la”, the iconic conical hats of Vietnamese culture, are a great choice.

Weave through the small alleyways of Bao Vinh trading town, known as Hue's "lost city". Observe local artisans who keep alive the ancestral crafts of blacksmithing, pearl inlay, and casting statues of 'Ong Tao'.
Take a break at a local tea and coffee house. Then join a traditional Hue cake workshop where you will make your own cake under the guidance of a local artisan.
Visit the gardens and meditation pavilion of the Tu Duc mausoleum. Experience Tu Hieu Pagoda, an ancient Buddhist temple nestled within a forest, surrounded by tombs and a serene lake.
Leaving Hue behind, you’ll make your way to Danang, traveling over the famous Hai Van Pass, one of Vietnam’s most scenic drives.
You’ll visit Nam O Fishing village, where you’ll be welcomed into the home of Mr. Phu, whose family has been processing fish sauce in this region for four generations now. You can see the traditional fish sauce-making process, from salting the fish to packaging the product.
You’ll have a guided walking tour to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hoi An Ancient Town. Its well-preserved streets and houses are characterized by their yellow buildings, lantern-lit streets, and charming atmosphere.
Today’s bicycle ride to Tra Que Herbal Village is a great way for you to explore the rural scenery of Hoi An’s countryside. Known for its aromatic herbs, you’ll see local farmers harvesting seasonal crops. Relax with an herbal foot bath and massage upon arrival in the village.
If you want to learn about the various herbs and spices used in creating some of Vietnam's delicious dishes, you can participate in a cooking demonstration. We’ll have lunch at the village before cycling back to Hoi An town.
Enjoy an afternoon of free time to explore Hoi An as you please before meeting back up with the group for your final dinner together in Vietnam.

Your final morning in Hoi An has arrived. After checking out of the hotel, head into the town for some last-minute shopping or stroll the riverside and snap some photos.
Say goodbye to Vietnam and take the included private transportation to the Danang International Airport (DAD) for your international flight home.

Hỏa Lò Prison was a prison in Hanoi used initially by the French colonists in Indochina for political prisoners, and later by North Vietnam for U.S. prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. During this later period, it was known to American POWs as the "Hanoi Hilton".

Ninh Binh:
A 1.5-hour boat trip through the Tam Coc grottoes (caves) nestled in the middle of an aquatic landscape and gigantic rock formations.
Rent a bicycle from one of many vendors and cycle around the countryside on a self-guided exploration of the area.
A sanctuary and refuge set aside for birds. Visitors can opt to walk or bicycle through the sanctuary. Please note that additional transportation fees would be associated with this optional activity.
Hue:
A walled enclosure within the Vauban-style citadel of the city of Huế, the former imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyễn dynasty. It contains the palaces that housed the imperial family, as well as shrines, gardens, and offices for mandarins.
Cruise along the Perfume River, observing and learning about the daily life of the Hue people while taking in the city's sights. Tea, cakes, and fruits are served during the cruise. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Hoi An:
Discover the peaceful coconut forest and be welcomed warmly by the local people here. Enjoy some fun activities at the village, such as spinning the basket boat, fishing for crabs, and casting the fishing net.
Create your own Vietnamese lantern, believed to be a symbol of luck, happiness, and wealth.

What's the weather like?
Hanoi experiences four distinct seasons, each with its own unique weather conditions.
Hue experiences a tropical monsoon climate, characterized by two distinct seasons: a hot, dry season from March to August and a cooler, wet season from September to February. The dry season, particularly May and June, can be very hot, with temperatures sometimes reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degree Celsius). The wet season brings heavy rainfall, especially from October to December, and occasional flooding.
Hoi An has two main seasons: a dry season from February to August and a rainy season from September to January. The dry season is characterized by sunny days, low rainfall, and warm temperatures, making it the most popular time for tourists. The rainy season brings higher rainfall, with October and November typically being the wettest months.

Space is limited on transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person. You will be responsible for carrying your luggage.

I have a peanut allergy. Is that a problem for this trip?
Yes, especially if you have a severe allergy. Peanuts are everywhere in Southeast Asia. Cross-contamination is a significant issue, as restaurants often have only one or two main woks, particularly street food vendors. Consequently, multiple dishes are typically cooked in the same frying pan without a proper wash in between.
What type of luggage is best?
The lighter the better! If you only have a rolling suitcase, that will work, but if you can get your hands on a more mobile bag, like a large backpack, that would be better.
We take multiple forms of transportation, and the roads' pavement can be covered with potholes. You'll also want a daypack for your personal gear, food, and drinks for the day.
What style of train will we be using for the overnight journey?
For the overnight train journey, we have arranged a soft-sleeper train. This style of train offers the most comfortable overnight travel experience with 4-berth cabins, air conditioning, and individual reading lights. These cabins are equipped with lockable doors, and each berth includes a pillow, sheet, and blanket. Soft sleepers are ideal for long journeys, providing a relaxing space for passengers.
Will I be able to use my credit card, or are transactions mostly cash?
Credit Cards are accepted in Vietnam. However, there is usually a limit of 10-15 USD, along with a transaction fee applied. Small markets and street food vendors will only accept cash.
What is the nightlife like in Vietnam?
Hanoi is a mix of historical and modern city, offering multiple options for nightlife, from dance clubs to music venues and, of course, night markets all around. In Hanoi, most people will hang out in the Old Quarter. Here, you will find many different vendors and bars offering cold drinks, as well as grilled seafood and meats.
Hoi An has become a hot spot for tourists and domestic travelers. There are smaller venues where you can simply relax and listen to music, or take a walk through night markets for shopping, as well as little bars and restaurants to enjoy a drink and soak in the atmosphere.
What is the standard for tipping in Vietnam?
Tipping is not necessary, but it is appreciated. For group meals, you are not expected to tip, as Under30Experiences will cover this. When dining on your own, 10% is a reasonable tip.
Of course, if you would like to give more, it would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to tip the housekeeping or hotel staff when checking out, we recommend offering the money to the reception staff.
Most hotels have a box for tips, which are distributed among the hotel’s team. For instance, if you feel a guide or activity supplier has gone above their expectations, then a tip of $5 is standard for a multiple-hour activity for the guide.

How much should I budget for food and activities?
We recommend 250 USD in cash.You will have to exchange USD into Vietnamese Dong. If you're eating local cuisine, expect meals to range from 2 to 4 USD per individual dish, including noodle soups, fried rice, and spicy salads. If you choose to eat international cuisine, the price will increase, with some meals costing as much as 10 USD for pasta or steaks.Travelers are responsible for 4 lunches and 3 dinners during the duration of the trip.
Will there be options for international cuisine, or will it only be Vietnamese cuisine?
A majority of the included meals will be local style, set menus. This is considered a family-style approach and is a common way Vietnamese people eat when dining out. Occasionally, we will have an included meal that offers international cuisine.For non-included meals, you will have various international cuisines to choose from. The French once colonized Vietnam, and this influence is still evident in the country's restaurant scene.
I understand that the tap water is not potable, but is the ice safe in Vietnam?
The ice is safe at restaurants, hotels, and coffee shops. The majority of street vendors purchase their ice from the same suppliers as the hotels do; however, their sanitation practices are not as strict.
Your Trip Leaders will help you assess whether you can trust the ice from the street vendor or not. The tap water is not potable at the hotels, but it is safe to use for brushing your teeth.
If I'm uncomfortable riding a bike, what are my options during the included group bike ride in Hoi An?
During the included bike ride, a backup vehicle or support motorcycle will always be available for travelers who prefer not to bike or become tired of biking.
Can I bargain for lower prices at the markets in Vietnam?
Yes. However, please be respectful and not overly aggressive. Bargaining for lower prices with shop vendors can be exhilarating and a lot of fun, plus a whole new style of shopping for many of us.
How do I obtain my visa for Vietnam?
U.S. citizens can apply for the Vietnam Visa in the following ways:
1) Apply for an E-visa via the official Vietnamese Immigration website (recommended)
Travelers can apply for and obtain an E-visa in advance, and the application can be processed through the official Vietnam Immigration website.
- The E-Visa is valid for up to 30 consecutive days. It’s the equivalent of a visa, but no stamps or labels are placed in the passport. Travelers with an e-Visa can touch down at any of Vietnam’s international airports, including Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City, Noi Bai in Hanoi, and Da Nang in the central region.
- The online application can be done 1-6 months before entering Vietnam. The processing time takes 2–3 working days. We recommend applying at least 30 days in advance to avoid unexpected problems.
- The E-visa fee for a single entry is 25 USD.
2) In person, at the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States
- The standard tourist visa is valid for a 1-month stay. You can apply for a Visa at the Vietnamese Embassy in the US. The length of the process can vary.
To apply for a visa, you must fill out a form that can be downloaded from the Embassy's website, present two recent photos, and your passport.
