Start in Tangier, spend two nights each in Chefchaouen and Fes, ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes, cross the High Atlas, and finish in Marrakech.

Meet the group in Tangier, Morocco’s Gateway to Africa. Included pickup from Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG) gets you to your accommodation in the heart of the city before your first dinner together.
Arrive by 4:00 p.m. for the included group transfer.
The trip ends in Marrakech after hotel checkout at 11:00 a.m. on Day 11, and you can depart anytime that day.

In the afternoon, arrive in Fes, the former capital of the Moroccan Empire. Fes is known as the spiritual and cultural heart of the country. It is said that the past is still alive in Fes, so be sure to soak it in.
In the evening, meet with local culinary experts who will demonstrate how to make pastilla, a traditional Moroccan dish made of layers of meat and pastry. Don’t worry, of course you’ll get to taste this Fes delicacy as well!
Wander the medina of Fes, North Africa’s oldest and largest medina, which dates back to the 9th century! Stroll these maze-like narrow streets with a local guide. Pass through bustling squares and souks lined with shops which will be selling just about everything you can imagine.
Catch a glimpse of two of the world’s oldest universities, one being Quaraouiyine Mosque, an important center of Islamic learning. Visit the courtyard of Medersa Attarine, which houses a masterpiece of intricate zellij tile work, carved stucco, and ornate cedar wood carpentry. See traditional woodwork at the Nejjarine Museum.

Today, you will make your way to the desert of Merzouga! Passing through the Azrou forest, you will encounter wild Barbary apes. If time permits, stretch your legs with a short walk through the woods.
Continue driving to the Midelt, a small town gently settled between the high and the middle Atlas Mountains known for its apple production. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and continue on your journey through the beautiful landscapes of this region.
Spend the evening in a Kasbah hotel on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Swim in the pool or pamper yourself with a spa, it’s been a long journey but you’ve reached the Sahara!
After the drive, you’ll have time to unwind at the hotel, swim, or just take it easy before the desert experience.
Wake up early to experience the sunrise across the desert.
Be welcomed into the Khamlia village to learn about the culture and customs of the local inhabitants. Listen to their songs and join in on cultural dances, then dine on a home-cooked traditional meal. Experience the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes, one of the world's iconic landscapes, on a camel! Gaze at the dunes that tower up to 150 meters and take in a memorable sunset.
Stay the night in a traditional desert camp and have the chance to try some more local cuisine. Sit around an open fire, enjoy some live music, and dance under the stars.
Wake up early and enjoy another camel ride to experience the sunrise across the desert.
Say goodbye to your Saharan friends, and continue your adventure with a stop at the Todgha Gorge. Walk along the Todra River, making your way to the gorges created by 800-foot (240 meter) tall limestone cliffs!
Continue driving along the famous “Road of 1000 Kasbahs” going through Skoura as you make your way to Ait Benhaddou, one of Morocco's most iconic sites. This beautiful, fortified village served as an important point along the caravan dating back over 1,000 years. Due to its unique architecture and magical ambiance, the movies Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator were filmed here.
Begin your morning with a visit to Ait Benhadou. Join with a local guide as you walk inside the huge kasbah, exploring some of the old houses from the inside. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with an incredible view of the desert landscape and surrounding plains.
Drive through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains, crossing Tizi n`Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco. Your destination is Marrakech, where the hubbub of modern life mixes with rich traditional culture.
Arrive at your beautiful riad, a traditional Moroccan home converted into a guesthouse in the heart of Old Medina. Walk the old narrow streets of the medina, then to the great square of Jemaa el Fna, one of the largest public spaces in the world.
Continue to discover more of Marrakech on your own. Perhaps book a spa package and pamper yourself after all those days of traveling, or grab a table at one of the rooftop cafes overlooking the medina and watch the sunset.

After breakfast, start your morning with a guided walking tour of Marrakech. Elbow your way through locals rushing in the labyrinthine alleys, where every move, sound, and smell spark curiosity. Stroll in the bustling souks of the medieval medina, and watch the commerce take place around you.
You will have the opportunity to visit the Bahia Palace, once a royal residence, and admire the combination of eastern and Moroccan Andalusian architecture on the tiled walls, carved ceilings, and mosaic floors.
After lunch, the rest of the day is free to explore further or shop in the bazaar. Visit the tropical gardens of the French painter Jacques Majorelle or check out the ruins of the Palais Badi, once one of the most beautiful palaces in the world.
This evening enjoy one last Moroccan dinner at a local restaurant in the medina.

What's the weather like?
The weather in Morocco can be extreme. Summers, from May to September, can be very hot, which means that it can be quite uncomfortable for those who are not used to the heat. Not all hotels have air-conditioning, and in those that do, it's not always functioning. A hat is essential.
Nighttime temperature can drop to below freezing in the High Atlas Mountains and can be chilly in the Sahara Desert. Please pack warmer clothes and a winter cap for these nights.
Is this trip for me?
If you’re interested in getting a taste of the local Moroccan life, then this trip is definitely for you! Your Trip Leader will show you local secrets and take you to places locals love to go.
There will be days with long drive times throughout this trip. These longer drives will be broken up with stops at villages, giving you a chance to experience rural Moroccan cultures.
This trip will have a good mix of guided activities as well as free time, allowing you to get the best of both worlds–-somebody to show you around each location and the freedom and flexibility to enjoy each city the way you choose.
Alcohol sales are limited on this trip. Morocco has a cafe culture that focuses on tea and coffee. Public consumption of alcohol is not common. If you are looking for a trip with lots of nightlife options, our Morocco experience is not for you.

I see there is an included camel ride as part of the Sahara Desert experience. Can you explain more?
Yes, this experience is typically a highlight of the trip. Each traveler will have their own camel and a local guide to walk alongside of you while riding the camel. Expect to be on top of the camel for approximately 45-60 minutes. At around the halfway point, you will stop to get off the camel and be given the option to walk up a nearby dune to watch either the sun rise or the sun set.
Travelers who are not comfortable riding a camel, may walk alongside the group with our Trip Leader at a safe distance and can still interact with the camels under proper guidance.
Please note that we have vetted our vendor who operates this riding experience. Through our vetting process we have not learned of any mistreatment or wrongful doing towards the animals. If our Trip Leaders observe any wrong doing during the experience, they notify our team immediately. If at anytime a situation comes up that is deemed unsafe, our Trip Leaders have the authority to stop the ride.
Additionally, there is a weight limit of 280 lbs. (130 kilograms) to participate in the activity.
Can I bring a drone on my Morocco trip?
No. Private use of drones is strictly forbidden in Morocco. Individuals found in possession of a drone in Morocco should be prepared for confiscation, coupled with a fine of over 100 USD.
How welcoming is Morocco to LGBTQ travelers?
Morocco has been and remains a popular destination for LGBTQ+ travelers despite being an Islamic country where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by law. However, this should not stop you from visiting while exercising appropriate caution as you explore Morocco’s ancient history, architecture, and culture. LGBTQ+ people in Morocco have faced significant legal and societal barriers. Homosexuality is seen by most of the population as a threat to the “traditional values'' that support the expectation of heterosexual norms and Muslim teachings. Like any visitor to a foreign country, LGBTQ+ or not, it’s important to respect local culture and customs. With that said major cities like Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir have many LGBTQ+-friendly spots.
Is there a tipping culture?
Yes. 10% is the standard. In restaurants, a 10% service charge is typically added to the bill. If you use a taxi service, it is considerate to round up to the closest dirham (MAD).
Can we use Credit Cards?
Credit cards are accepted by most hotels, restaurants, and shops. However, smaller vendors and market stalls often only accept cash. Do expect to be using cash for most of your daily transactions, especially in the medinas (markets), as local vendors will not have a credit card machine.
Is there laundry available?
Yes, laundry is available in most hotels at an additional cost. Ask your Trip Leader for more information.
Should I expect to dress more culturally appropriate?
To respect local dress codes and customs, we recommend dressing more conservatively than you do at home. To respect the local conservative culture, please avoid wearing short skirts and shorts. Try to wear shirts that are loose and cover the shoulders and stomach. It is common for Moroccans to wear shirts with sleeves past their elbows wearing long pants is the norm. Though younger Moroccans are wearing shorts more often these days, the custom is to wear long pants.
Can I drink the water in Morocco?
We recommend you don't drink tap water in Morocco, even in hotels, as it contains much higher levels of different minerals than the water you may have at home. Bottled water is widely available in Morocco. Don’t forget to pack motion sickness tablets and diarrhea blockers in your first aid kit.
What type of luggage is best?
The lighter, the better! If you only have a rolling suitcase, that will work, but if you can get your hands on a more mobile bag, like a large backpack, that would be better. We take all forms of transportation. You'll also want a daypack for your personal gear, food, and drinks for the day.

What do I need to pack?

Can I opt out of an included activity?
Of course! This is your trip, and you don’t have to participate in anything you don’t want to. We can also help you set up other optional activities if you'd rather do that. Please be aware that opting out of included activities will not change the price of your trip.
What is the physical level of this Morocco trip?
Moderate. This trip is a good mix of activity and relaxation and includes moderate physical activities. Participants should expect to be active 3-4 hours most days. An active lifestyle is helpful though not required to enjoy the trip.
What is a riad?
A traditional Moroccan riad is a home with multiple stories that centers around an open-air courtyard that contains a fountain. Riads were once the estates of the wealthiest citizens, merchants, and courtiers. The building is in the shape of a rectangle with different rooms on each of the four sides. In the modern era, most riads have been converted to boutique hotels and guesthouses.
What are the accommodations like?
You will be staying in hotels, riads, guesthouses, and a desert camp. Accommodations are double occupancy. Solo travelers will be paired with someone of the same gender. You can request a friend to be your roommate upon checkout. If you'd prefer not to have a roommate, private room options are available upon request, subject to hotel availability for an extra charge. Yes. This Morocco Extended itinerary is three days longer. In this itinerary, we have included two nights each in Chefchaouen and Fes. We have also included an upgraded desert camp for the one-night stay in the Sahara desert.
Do I need a visa to travel to Morocco?
Travelers from many countries do not need a visa to visit Morocco for a period of up to 90 days. Currently, citizens of Australia, New Zealand, the USA, the UK, the EU, and Canada, among many others, do not need a visa to travel to Morocco, provided they have a passport of usually six months' validity and with proof of an onward or return ticket. If you do need a visa, you can submit an application either electronically or via your nearest Moroccan embassy, consulate, or visa center
