Bali culture, volcano sunrise, and Gili snorkel days
DAYS /
7
NIGHTS
This trip mixes Bali culture with real island time: Ubud Palace, Gunung Kawi Sebatu, a Balinese family compound, a Mount Batur sunrise hike, and a private snorkeling boat day around the Gili Islands.

Most people book this trip solo — small groups of like-minded 21–35s mean connection happens fast. No third-wheeling, no FOMO.
Arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) by 2:00 pm, then take the included private transfer to Ubud, Bali’s cultural hub. Once you’re in, use the rest of the day to explore town or recover by the pool before dinner.
Airfare booking details are sent after registration—wait to book your flight until you receive them.
You’ll wrap up in laid-back Sanur, then take the included private group transfer to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Plan for the trip to end at 12:00 pm.
Expect to be active 3–4 hours on most days, with temple visits, snorkeling, and plenty of time outdoors. The toughest part is the Mount Batur sunrise trek: a 5.5-mile hike that starts around 2:00 am, plus there are a few long drives and multi-hour ferry rides. If needed, you can stop below the summit and still take in the view.
This trip moves a little slower than some U30X itineraries, but it’s not lazy. You’ll have built-in time for Ubud wandering, post-hike spa time, open beach hours on Gili Trawangan, and a relaxed final stretch in Sanur.
Ubud is Bali’s cultural hub, with art shops, cafes, and narrow lanes all around town. From here you’ll visit Ubud Palace, Gunung Kawi Sebatu, and the Ganyar traditional market before trading jungle hills for Gili Trawangan beaches.
Travel with 8–16 people, usually around 12–14. Most travelers join solo, so it’s easy to meet people fast.

Arrive at Ngurah Rai International Airport by 2:00 pm and take included transportation to your accommodations in Ubud, Bali’s cultural and artistic capital.
Take in the views of Ubud’s hilly jungle landscapes of green rice fields and palm trees. Wander the town and discover its many art shops, museums, and boutique shops. Not feeling up to exploring the town? Relax in the pool at the accommodation to help ease that jetlag.
Get to know your new friends while enjoying some delicious Balinese cuisine and begin to settle into your new surroundings.
Once you’re checked in, wander Ubud’s art shops and boutiques or keep it easy at the pool.

Begin your day with a visit to the Ubud Palace, known for its intricate Balinese architecture, traditional stone carvings, and lush gardens. Afterward, visit Gunung Kawi Sebatu, a temple built in the 11th century dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu God of Water.
Enjoy lunch overlooking the beautiful Tegalalang Rice Terrace, and take a photo on the Bali Swing.
Return to Ubud in the late afternoon and have some time to explore the town or relax at the accommodation before dinner.
Bali Swing
You’ll have late-afternoon time to keep exploring Ubud or head back to the hotel before dinner.

There is no better way to immerse yourself in Bali than spending time with locals. Today, you will learn about Balinese culture from a local host family.
Your hosts will walk you through Ubud’s Ganyar traditional market, where you will buy fresh produce for your cooking demonstration.
Be welcomed into a Balinese family home to understand the unique architecture and how homes are designed to pay respect to ancestors and the Balinese gods. Participate in a craft workshop to learn how to make a traditional offering.
In the afternoon, take a short drive to the village’s temple and participate in a private purification ceremony.

Wake up at 2:00 am and gear up for a memorable experience. Today, you are hiking to the top of a volcano to watch the sunrise! We promise it will be worth it.
Begin your 5.5 mile (9 kilometer) hike in the dark, up Mount Batur, taking most travelers two or three hours to complete.
Take in the spectacular views of the surrounding valleys with a hot cup of Balinese coffee while giving yourself gratitude for completing this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In the afternoon, explore Ubud with optional activities ranging from visiting a local waterfall to pampering yourself with a spa or simply exploring the numerous art galleries and boutique craft shops downtown.
Waterfall visit or spa in Ubud
The afternoon is yours in Ubud—chase a waterfall, book a spa, or browse galleries and craft shops downtown.

Say goodbye to Ubud and begin your journey to the Gili Islands, an archipelago of three small coral islands known for their powdery white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.
Arrive at Gili Trawangan, your base for the next two nights. Relax by bathing in the sun and dipping in the fresh waters of the Bali Sea while sipping on freshly cut coconut.
In the late afternoon, rejuvenate your body with a yoga class. In the evening, join your friends for a beachfront dinner. Welcome to heaven!
Once you arrive on Gili Trawangan, there’s time to hit the beach, swim, and slow down before dinner.

Explore the Gili Islands on a traditional wooden Balinese boat with a glass floor.
Snorkel and swim among tropical coral gardens and see the underwater sculpture called Nest that features 48 life-sized human figures arranged in a circle on the ocean floor. If you are lucky, you may encounter sea turtles that call the Gili Islands home.
After a full day of swimming and exploring the islands, return to Gili Trawangan for a free evening to relax or perhaps dance at a beach party.
Your evening is open back on Gili Trawangan—keep it low-key or head out for the island’s beach-party scene.

For those early risers, head to the beach for an optional morning standup paddleboard session and yoga class. Rejuvenate your body and appreciate the calmness of the morning on this tropical island.
Spend your last few hours on the Gili islands as you please before taking a ferry back to the larger island of Bali. This is a good time to go for a bike ride around the island or simply relax and soak up your vacation time!
Arrive at Sanur, a tranquil seaside town known for its laid-back atmosphere. Check out some local markets or grab a drink during sunset before joining your friends for your last dinner on the trip.
Sunrise stand-up paddleboard session and yoga
Use your last island hours however you want—bike around Gili Trawangan, beach it, shop local markets, or grab a sunset drink in Sanur.

On the final day of our adventure, wake up and soak in Bali together and reflect on your experience over the past week.
Take a morning stroll along the beachfront promenade or one final swim in the sea.
Take included private transportation with your group to the airport for your flight back home.
If your flight timing works, squeeze in one last beachfront walk or quick swim before heading to the airport.

You’ll stay in shared hotel rooms throughout the trip, giving you a straightforward place to reset between Ubud days, the Mount Batur 2:00 am wake-up, and time on Gili Trawangan. Laundry is available in Ubud for an extra fee.
Hotels may vary by departure but stay consistent in quality; solo travelers share with a same-gender roommate, and private rooms are available on request for an extra charge.
Coming solo works well here: airport pickup, hotels, key activities, and a Trip Leader are all set from day one. Plus, you can switch your trip for free more than 60 days out.
Plenty of companies will fly you to Costa Rica for less. Here's what you're actually paying for — and why people who travel with us rarely go back to the alternative.
Small enough that you'll know everyone's name by day two. Not a 40-person coach where you're a wristband.
Locally-owned places with character and comfort — not a bunk in a 12-bed dorm. Where you sleep is part of the trip.
We guide the big moments and leave the rest open. No 6am wake-up calls to tick boxes you didn't ask for.
Hotels, activities, ground transport, your leader, and taxes — included. No hidden fees stacking up after you book.
I took the Bali Trip this month and it was truly one of the best experience I've ever had! Lindsey was an amazing group leader with a lot of energy and excitement. This trip had the perfect combination of having scheduled activities and free time to roam the country. I definitely look forward to attending another Under30Experiences trip in the future!
Under30Experiences has been such an incredible life changing experience! There's so many positive things about this fantastic group of people. That said, I've love to travel but it's not easy finding people to join you internationally. Under30Experiences has allowed me to fulfill my wanderlust by having an array of destinations you can go and you'll meet like minded people from around the country that accompany you on these trips. The trip leaders are fantastic as well, truely the most caring and unforgettable people. The trips are very safe, organized and packed full of adventure from the time you step off the plan until departure. I've already been to Bali and Colombia and I'm excited for Peru, France and Iceland this year with the group. Additionally, what's nice about these trips, is you do them in just a few days if you don't have a lot of vaca and over a holiday. Definitely recommend Under30Experiences to anyone who loves to travel and needs great people to experience it with.
I booked the Bali trip with no expectations, and I came out with priceless memories. Our U30X guide Lindsey and local guide Angga led an unforgettable trip. We were culturally immersed as if we were one of the Balinese locals. The village welcomed us with open arms. Our group, the activities, and the local cuisine were all amazing. If you love culture, travelling off the beaten path, being active, and sharing memories with cool people, this U30X trip is for you!

Every departure is led by a dedicated U30X Trip Leader who handles the logistics, brings the group together from day one, and works alongside our trusted local guides on the ground.

What's the weather like?
Indonesia’s tropical monsoon climate has two distinct seasons: the dry season, between May and September, and the wet season, between October and April.
Most trips will be traveling during the dry season, but the more prepared you are for your trip, the better.
Dry Season of May to September
Wet Season of October to April
Indonesia has a tropical, humid climate. This trip involves a lot of movement throughout the day, and you will sweat.
Do I need a visa?
Guidelines for U.S. Passport Holders:
A visa is required to enter Indonesia and the island of Bali. If you are staying for less than 30 days, you will need the Visit Visa / Visa on Arrival type visa. This can be acquired at the Denpasar International Airport by queuing up at a Visa kiosk, or you can apply online 14 days before traveling to Indonesia to quicken the process at Immigration.
The cost is 500,000 IDR or 35 USD. This fee can be paid by credit card or cash. American Express is not accepted.
Make sure you have an updated passport with you. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the last date of your trip. Please consult the U.S. Department of State with any more questions.
Make sure there is no damage to your passport. Conditions that may constitute damage requiring you to replace your passport include water damage, a significant tear, unofficial markings on the data page, missing or torn out visa pages, a hole punch, or other injuries.
What should I pack?
Please be eco-friendly!
We recommend using a travel backpack for your convenience or a medium-sized suitcase if you prefer. A daypack is also essential for carrying everyday items. Space is limited on transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person. You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage.
Below are our staff picks of the best items on the market that we travel with. All products selected are 3 ounces or less to comply with TSA carry-on size and are organically inspired when possible.
IMPORTANT: Bring a two-prong 220-volt power adaptor to charge your electronics. Shop here for one.
Do not forget a water bottle, sunscreen, sandals, beach towel, waterproof rain jacket, sunglasses, and a hat!

Is this trip for me?
Bali is one of Indonesia's tourism icons that people from around the world visit. The people of Bali are known for being friendly, polite, helpful, and welcoming to tourists. They are also known to be soft-spoken, constantly conversing with a kind and courteous tone of voice. Who wouldn’t want to experience this lovely community?
We’ve designed this trip to be at a bit of a slower pace, just like the culture of Bali. But that doesn’t mean we are sitting idle and not doing anything. It just means that we want you to have the opportunity to get a feel of a culture that we’ve come to know over the years.
While soaking up the Balinese culture, you’ll spend most of your time outdoors. We’ll take you to a monkey sanctuary, up an active volcano, and bring you to the beaches of the Gili Islands.
There will be a few long drives, and the ferry services to and from the Gili islands are a few hours each way. But these longer transfers make arriving at the final destination all the more worthwhile.
Remember, Bali is no longer a secret to the tourism sector. So you will come across some crowded areas from time to time as people line up to take their Instagram-worthy photos. But we do our best to get away from the crowds so that you can truly experience what makes this Indonesian island so unique.
-Age requirement: 21+
