Hi, my name is Tomas, and I am a Trip Leader for Under30Experiences in Argentina. I am originally from Buenos Aires and have been working as a tour guide in this beautiful country for ten years. If you are planning a trip to Argentina and have questions about what is included and what to expect, I would be happy to assist you. I wrote some of my favorite highlights of the trip.
My Favorite Highlights of Buenos Aires and Patagonia
Start with Buenos Aires, a city of contrasts that combines elements of Paris, Madrid, and New York with Latin American passion. You'll be immersed in a rich cultural experience from the moment you arrive, with museums and art galleries showcasing works by some of the world's most renowned artists. And if you're looking for an authentic Argentine experience, you simply can't miss the Tango Show—it's an unforgettable spectacle.
While in Buenos Aires, you will enjoy a private "asado" at a local restaurant that also offers wine tasting. Afterward, you will be taken on a tour of the winery store.
Depart to El Chalten in Patagonia, Argentina's National Capital of Trekking. Imagine immersing yourself in unspoiled nature, opening up all your senses. At each viewpoint, stop and contemplate the stunning mountains and glaciers that will leave an unforgettable impression on you.
The Laguna de Los Tres hike is one of my favorites in Patagonia. It is located in the heart of Patagonia and offers some of the most breathtaking views one can experience. As an avid traveler, I have had the privilege of hiking worldwide, but Fitz Roy Mountain stands out above the rest. It is the most spectacular mountain that I have ever seen!
After hiking to Laguna de Los Tres, we will visit a local brewery a Czech family owns, where we will prepare their original recipe. We will then enjoy a well-deserved dessert, Alfajores Chalteños, a traditional mini cake with Dulce de Leche.
Our final destination will be El Calafate. This land of glaciers offers not only the beauty and grandeur of some of the most stunning ice formations in the world but also a vibrant city.
When you find yourself in Perito Moreno, stroll along the footbridge stretching out in front of the colossal glacier. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy the magnificent view's glory, which is nothing short of breathtaking. But that's just the beginning of your adventure because the real magic happens when you embark on the mini trekking on Perito Moreno Glacier. This unforgettable activity is a must-do when you're in Patagonia. As you walk through the crevasses and water holes of the glacier, you'll feel like you're in a whole new world. And when you're thirsty, you can drink water straight from the glacier, an experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and alive.
We plan to visit my good friend Gabo at Rancho Aparte. He is a local chef who opens his house to cook for us, and we will enjoy a homemade dinner and learn about local stories and his experiences in Patagonia. The culinary experience promises to be a delightful blend of unique and complementary flavors, all set in a charming and picturesque house that exudes an unmistakable rustic elegance.
After completing all the wonderful activities on your trip, you will embark on a local flight that will take you back to Buenos Aires, where the journey ends. During the flight, you can enjoy the beautiful aerial views of the surrounding scenery and reminisce about your amazing experiences during your trip.
